DPI Calculator

Calculate DPI from image pixels and the intended print width or height.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the image width and height in pixels.
  2. Enter the target print width and height in inches.
  3. Read the horizontal and vertical DPI.
  4. Compare the results with your printer or publishing requirements.

Before and after example

Before

Pixel dimensions and an intended print size.

After

Horizontal and vertical DPI values for the print.

Settings explained

DPI is calculated as pixels divided by inches. Enter both physical dimensions for a complete check; a single dimension is enough for one-axis DPI.

Frequently asked questions

What if the horizontal and vertical DPI differ?

The image and print rectangle have different aspect ratios. Adjust one dimension or crop the image.

Is higher DPI always better?

Not always. Higher DPI needs more pixels and may not be visible at normal viewing distances.
